Safe Haven Equine Rescue was established in 2000 from a dream of founder Ruth Meadows. Since its establishment, Safe Haven has rescued hundreds of horses. In 2006 Ruth retired as executive director. Her successor, Richard Fincher, and a new board has taken over the organization. Learn more about Richard, his plans, and Safe Haven board members on the "About Us" page of this web site.
Our non-profit organization is dedicated to the rescue, rehabilitation, and sanctuary of neglected, abused, or retired horses and to providing a safe haven or loving adoption for these majestic animals.
We need help in many ways. Volunteers are the key to any successful organization such as ours. Without them, we would have to close the doors forever. As you can imagine, we also need help in many areas that do not require horse experience.

"Whenever an animal is forced into the service of men, everyone of us must be concerned for any suffering it bears on that account. No one of us may permit any preventable pain to be inflicted, even though he would be interfering in something that does no concern him. No one may shut his eyes and think the pain, which is therefore not visible to him is non-existent." Dr. Albert Schweitzer

YES.....WE ARE STILL HERE!!!!
We haven't been in the news or rescued any horses lately. Other agencies have been seen in news reports. Safe Haven reached a point due to the drought, no pasture and the economy, donations have been down and we could not accept or take in any horses in fear that we will not be able to care for them. So we wanted to let everyone know we are still in operation, we are just hanging in there and doing the best we can with what donations we are receiving. We fear that as winter comes on with hay being so scarce, that by February or March of next year, rescues will increase. It is our prayer that if the Good Lord directs us to bring in more rescues at that time that He will provide us with the funds and assistance to do so.
We want to Thank everyone for their continued support in our efforts to care for our equine friends. With your help and support we are hoping to make it through these tough times.
