God forbid that I should go to any heaven where there are no horses.

Safe Haven Equine Rescue established 2000
In Memory of the Horse
At Safe Haven, we have rescued many animals from the valley of the shadow of death. We have done our best to love, comfort, and restore these animals to health. Sometimes, in spite of our efforts, these majestic animals pass over The Rainbow Bridge.
All of the residents of Safe Haven have a special place in our hearts as they overcome adversity. In December 2006, a special sorrel gelding was rescued from his home and placed in our care. He was severely malnourished...too weak to stand. As a result, his legs were swollen from the fluid build-up.
This horse gave all that he could give to overcome his weaknesses, but his neglect had taken a toll on his health. We named him 'Valor'. Valor means courage, bravery, and spirit...all of the qualities that we witnessed on a daily basis in this wonderful animal. Unfortunately, On Christmas Eve 2006, Valor had given all he could in his fight to live.
He will forever remain in our hearts, but we know that now his body has been restored as he runs in green pastures and beside the still waters.
11 horses were rescued from Franklin County. We lost one immediately due to starvation, neglect and severe injuries received from a barbed wire fence. The others were also severely neglected and malnourished. Diamond was one of those mares. She was a beautiful bay mare with a white diamond on her forehead. Even in her condition, she lived up to her name. As the days, weeks and months passed she grew stronger and we had no difficulty finding a loving home for her and her friends. Unfortunately, Diamond's age and the trama of her ordeal weakened her immune system so her time with her adoptive family was short in comparison to most of our success stories. The important thing is that Diamond lived out the rest of her days with dignity...extremely happy, well cared for, and very, very loved. We will all miss you Diamond.
