"Whenever an animal is forced into the service of men, everyone of us must be concerned for any suffering it bears on that account. No one of us may permit any preventable pain to be inflicted, even though he would be interfering in something that does no concern him. No one may shut his eyes and think the pain, which is therefore not visible to him is non-existent." Dr. Albert Schweitzer

Application Approval Process
The Application will be reviewed to verify that the applicant meets the requirements of Safe Haven Equine Rescue & Retirement Home and the references submitted will be verified.
A volunteer inspector will be assigned to conduct the onsite inspection of the future equine property.
All applications will be considered based on your ability to provide the best home for the horse. The adoption fee of $300.00 helps us continue our operation to rescue, rehabilitate and find homes for other horses.
We want to ensure that all equines in the care of Safe Haven Equine Rescue & Retirement Home are placed in suitable homes.
Looking for a companion for your other horses, a family horse, a trail or show horse, or just a 'pasture puppy', consider adopting a horse. Adopters are individuals who receive a great companion and give a special horse a loving home forever.
When many horses arrive at Safe Haven, they have been deprived of food or water and are very under weight and dehydrated. Volunteers work with law enforcement officers and the court system to remove them from their neglectful home and move them to Safe Haven. They immediately receive a veterinary analysis and care. After a short quarantine period, they are slowly introduced to the other residents of Safe Haven.
Safe Haven gives these horses a second chance for life. Someone like you could give one lucky resident a home for life. In order to adopt, please review the requirements below and fill out the adoption application. A member of Safe Haven will contact you as soon as possible for a pre-adoption inspection. During the inspection, a volunteer will visit your property and barn/stall area that you will use for you adopted horse.
This will be a great opportunity to ask additional questions about the adoption process and the organization. Photos will be taken of your property and the proper paperwork will be completed so we can ensure a safe home and you are completely prepared for your new horse.
Please read over our adoption process to make sure adopting is right for you. By adopting a Safe Haven Equine, you are agreeing to provide a home for your new equine for like - you cannot sell, give away, lease, or otherwise dispose of your horse. If at any time you desire that the adoption be terminated, the horse must be returned to Safe Haven.
Adoption Process
Every effort has been made to disclose the history of these horses AS WE KNOW IT. These are rescue horses, and in some circumstances we may have little or no knowledge about the equine's prior life or training. We will tell you everything we know about the horse however, we cannot make any guarantees about a horses's temperament or training.
